Christchurch Things: Botanic Gardens

Apologies for not blogging sooner, this week I've had tests everyday, so between studying, eating and sleeping and the occasional bit of exercise, there hasn't been room for much else! Apart from a quick trip out on Saturday that is, details below.

I have fond summer memories of wandering through the Botanic Gardens of Christchurch (which is funnily enough known as the Garden City) during several holidays down in the South Island. So on Saturday we meandered alongside the Avon River, arriving on the doorstep of these magical conservatories. It was very different visiting in winter, the trees standing bare and the flowerbeds empty, however, this doesn't take away from the fairy-tale like atmosphere at all. On a sunny day regardless of the temperature the Gardens are an ultimate picnic spot, and I highly recommend doing what we did, and buying some delicious hummus and bread from the Riccarton Farmers Market, or whatever snacks float your boat really, and enjoying them in this atmospheric spot.

Also, the gift shop is more like a little gem of an interior design store, so it's definitely worth checking out, alongside the café, which looked about 10 times better than your usual tourist attraction eatery.
