So a few weekends ago I went to Lorde's show up in Auckland. A-mazing (that good that one word doesn't quite convey it so I had to split it into two).

I missed the opening act and my friend and I pushed as close to the stage as we could, not daring to go any further than the glaring group of 'Lordests' in front of us who were clearly daring anyone to try and take their spot. As soon as she casually strolled on stage, in an awesome black crop top and pants (that had me spending most of her first few songs trying to figure out if it was a jumpsuit or not, I'm still unsure), I knew we were in for a performance of epic magnitude. Her voice glided out from the speakers haunting and melodious, sounding as good as, if not better than on her album Pure Heroine (if you haven't bought it yet, chuck it at the top of your Christmas wishlist now), and despite the pretty placid crowd she gave herself totally into every song and piece of music. I felt as though I was watching her perform to herself in her bedroom, and I don't meant that in a bad way, as if she wasn't involved with the audience, because she was, but more so in that you didn't get the notion that she was embarrassed or doing anything just because there was a crowd in front of her. Her brief outfit changes (of three different cropped singlets) seemed cool and effortless and she'd breeze back onto stage as though she'd never left, rather than feeling unnecessarily frequent, like at some concerts.
The climax of her set was definitely on her single Team. Finally the crowd got a bit more into it and there was even some jumping going on, or at least I was jumping, in time with Lorde, so who cares what everyone else was up to. It ended with a blast of confetti and being the geek that I am I took a piece of it home to keep with my ticket as a memento, hardly necessary though, as this will be a concert that will be hard to forget.
The only downside was that it seemed pretty short - an hour and a half on the dot, although maybe that's the norm these days? Still worth every penny though, and also no encore. Even though she said "this is the last song", I assumed she'd prowl back out like most artists do, to give the crowd one last lamenting farewell. Aside from that though, epic night.
ps. Excuse the photo quality, at concerts I never really get to into taking lots of photos, I'm more sort of 'in the moment' haha
